Donald S. Evans, age 81, of New Egypt, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. He was born in Bordentown, NJ to the late David and Elizabeth (nee Poinsett) Evans on December 24, 1938.
Don proudly served in the Army for six years. He retired as a Boiler Operator from Fort Dix, NJ. After retirement, Don worked part time at Great Adventure in Jackson. Don was a life member of Hope Hose Humane Fire Company No. 1 in Bordentown. He was also a member of New Egypt Volunteer Fire Co, being the first Fire Police Captain, and a member of McKaig-Test-Mullen New Egypt American Legion Post 455. He enjoyed watching all sports on TV, and helping his neighbors with mowing their lawns. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who will deeply missed.
Don was predeceased by his parents; his brother Dave Jr.; and his two sisters, Betty and Henriette. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Ida (nee Hankins) Evans of New Egypt; and his daughter Karen Lee Evans-Pletzer and husband George of New Egypt.
Due to current restrictions, funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s memory to Hope Hose Humane Fire Company No. 1 located at 150 W Burlington Street, Bordentown, NJ 08505. All arrangements are under the direction of Tilghman Funeral Home located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
