Obituary for Karl- Heinz Alfred Firch of Whiting, NJ
Karl-Heinz Alfred Firch or “Heinz”, 91, of Whiting, New Jersey was born August 5, 1928 in Essen, Germany. He was apprenticed by Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz of Essen. He was conscripted into German Army/Labor Force at the young age of 14. At 16 he surrendered to the US Army and was held as a POW for 4 months. After the war ended, he worked for the famous Zeche Zollverein in Essen. He later immigrated with his wife and children to the USA where he worked as a millwright for US Steel Corporation, from which he retired from. He was a life member of the German American Society of Trenton.
“Heinz” left us on August 3, 2020, a few days shy of his 92nd birthday. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife Johanna, his long-time companion Margot Savage, and is survived by his son Heinz, his daughter Silvia, grandchildren, numerous relatives in Germany and many friends from the German American Society of Trenton. Services for Karl are being held privately at the convenience of the family. All funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tilghman Funeral Home located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
