Janet M. Amburgey, age 88, a lifelong resident of New Egypt, passed away with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at home. She was born in New Egypt to the late Raymond and Amalia Buckalew on May 28, 1932. Janet graduated from Allentown High School in 1950. She worked as a Secretary for the North Hanover Board of Education for over 30 years, until her retirement in 1997. Janet was always very active. She was a member and past president of the New Egypt Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Petite Elite, the New Egypt Chapter of Deborah and the AHS Fifty Plus Club. Janet was a devoted member, past Deacon and Children’s Choir Director at the Plumsted Presbyterian Church. She loved the beach, swimming in the ocean and shopping; but her greatest joy in life was her family. She loved being surrounded by her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite night of the year was Christmas Eve, celebrating with all the people she loved most. Janet was a loving, inspirational, caring and wonderful woman who held a special place in many of hearts and will be deeply missed. Janet is predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Amalia Buckalew (nee Ivins) and by her sister, Ethel Van Hise. She leaves behind her adored husband of 67 years, Bartom Amburgey of New Egypt; her four children, Kurt Amburgey and wife Susan of Brick, Kerry Peters and husband Jim of New Egypt, Kent Amburgey and wife Karen of New Egypt and Karla Amburgey and wife Maureen of Moorestown. She also leaves behind her eleven grandchildren, Bob Amburgey and Tiffany, Michael Amburgey and Bernadette, Dana Tonkovich and Erik, Kristie Bendick and Peter, Ann-Marie Eidell, Julie Nymick and Carlos, Frank Nymick and Courtney, Rebecca Peters, Kelly Gubernat and Steve, Kyle Amburgey and Emily, and Kody Amburgey; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law Terry Amburgey; sister-in-law Narice Moore; and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. Due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions, visitation for Janet will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Church of the Assumption, located at 28 Monmouth Road, Wrightstown NJ 08562, from 5PM to 7PM. A funeral service will begin at 7PM. Facial coverings and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet’s memory to the Plumsted Presbyterian Church, 14 Front Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
