Robert “Bob” John Mago Sr., 76, of Whiting, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Bob was born on December 21, 1944, in Rahway, NJ to the late Michael and Julia Mago. After graduating from Woodbridge High School, he chose to serve his country as a Boatswain’s Mate in the US Navy and served on the USS Roosevelt. His love for his country would follow him the rest of his life. He was a true patriot. Bob was active in the VFW, the American Legion and the Elks Club over the years and would often be spotted wearing his Veteran’s hats. Bob owned and operated Mago Industrial Supply in Belford, NJ for many years. He was also a licensed health insurance agent and worked with adults with special needs. He was an avid baseball fan, rooting for the NY Mets. He loved coaching and playing baseball and was an enthusiastic San Francisco 49ers fan. He loved to travel and was a “savage gambler”. You could often find him in Atlantic City taking in a show, enjoying the buffet or beating the odds and taking money out of the casinos’ pockets. Bob was a kind soul who was the definition of a good person. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. Bob enjoyed any time he could get all his family members together and said they were his reason for living. He loved being a father and was also a foster-Dad to many children over the years. Robert epitomized the saying “Honor God, Love your family and Defend your country”. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him and will never be forgotten. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Julia Mago (nee Nagy) and by his former wife Patricia Mago. Bob was the loving father to Steven Sr. and wife Rosemary of Belford, NJ, Robert Jr. and wife Pamela of Edison, NJ, Edward and wife Kim of Brick, NJ and Michael and wife Cindi of Howell, NJ. He was the adored grandfather to Steven Jr. and fiancé Alana, Nicole, Andrew and fiancé Briana, Matthew and partner Ashley, Caitlyn and partner Shane, Ashley, Sammy, Abby, Gabby, Kayla, AJ, Gabriella, Vincent, and Dominic, as well as the cherished great-grandfather to Everleigh, Teagan, Gregory, Harper, and another coming soon. Bob is also survived by his sister, Barbara Hapstak and by his former wife Patricia Cologna. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, March 7, 2021 from 12PM to 3PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
