Alvin R. Theiss, age 78, of Jacobstown passed away on Friday, December 20 at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills. He was born on January 11, 1935 in Dallas, Oregon, the son of the late Steve and Elsie Theiss. Al served in the US Air Force and the NJ Air National Guard. During his military career he flew F-100’s, F-105’s and F-4’s as well as other aircraft. He flew 250 combat missions during the Vietnam War and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and twelve Air Medals. He also worked for Grumman Aerospace during the Apollo missions as a test pilot for the lunar command module. His long working experience later included 20 years with the NJ Department of Transportation. Al will be sadly missed by his wife of 34 years, Margaret Theiss, and his daughter Carla Waters, her husband James and granddaughter Alexis; his son Brian Theiss and his wife Angela and their children Delana, Claire and Logan, as well as his brother William Theiss and wife Mary, and brother Robert Theiss.
