John Thomas Pietras, 91, died Sunday, May 17, 2020 just 10 days apart from his beloved wife of 67 years, Sophie Pietras (Bielamowicz). Born in Trenton, NJ on June 19, 1928, he was the son of the late John and Lottie (Jablonski) Pietras and Great-Grandfather of the late Luke Joshua Butera and Jonathan Paul Butera. He is survived by his sister Lorraine T. Poslusny and brother Jerome R. Pietras. Also survived by four children and their families; son Thomas and Stacey Pietras, daughter Patricia and Lee Doctor, son Robert and Lynn Pietras, and daughter Christine and the late Thomas Hoffman. Survivors also include 5 Grandchildren (Monica Butera and husband, Mark; Zachary Hoffman, Matthew Hoffman, Jacob Pietras, Bryce Pietras), 1 great-grandchild (Dominic Butera) and several nieces and nephews. John was the first in his family to graduate college from St. Johns University in 1952 as a Pharmacist. He was only able to do this due to help from the G.I. bill due to his service in the military from 1946- 1948. He also stayed on as a Navy Reserve in the Military until 1953 when he got married to Sophie. He then owned and operated his own store, the downtown Pemberton NJ Pharmacy for over 20 years and continued his pharmacy work after that by working at the Walson Army Community Hospital until 1992. A longtime Columbus NJ resident for over 50 years, John was known as an avid fisherman and enjoyed vegetable gardening in his spare time. Due to current restrictions, services for John will be private at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt.
