James E. Marsch, age 89, of Pemberton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the New Jersey Veteran’s Memorial Home in Vineland. He was born in Taunton, Massachusetts to the late Charles and Mildred (Duley) Marsch on November 22, 1931. After graduating from high school, James enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served as a CPL during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In 1954 he met the love of his life, Martha Butler and the two were married in 1956. James worked as an Inspector for Mutual Fire Inspection Bureau of New England in Salem, Massachusetts and after his retirement there went to work as a carpenter for Monihan Builders. James loved woodworking. He was a very talented craftsman, doing everything from animal and bird wood carvings to building cabinets and furniture to building a summer home in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed traveling and camping, seeing most of the US, Canada and 15 countries in Europe. James was also an avid painter, skilled in both oil and watercolor. James was a faithful member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Pemberton for several years and also served on the church Vestry Board. His greatest joy however was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. James is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mildred Marsch (nee Duley); by four of his siblings, Charles Marsch, Jr., Sally Bakon and husband Joe, Mildred Tripp and husband Lester and by Betty Proulx and husband Henry. He leaves behind his adored wife of 64 years, Martha “Marty” Marsch of Pemberton, NJ; his two sons, James A. Marsch and wife Marguerite of Cazenovia, NY and Karl Marsch of Wrightstown, NJ; his grandchildren, Rebecca Marsch of Canandaigua, NY and Emma Rumely and husband Rob of Rochester, NY; his sister, Priscilla Devine and husband James of South Dennis, MA; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Francis Butler and wife Nancy of Alexandria, NH, Daniel Butler of Newmarket, NH and Christy Butler and wife Jan of Cheshire, MA; and Patricia Park of Taunton, MA; along with his dogs, Hope and Bru, several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service/military honors for James on Friday, June 11 at 1:30 PM at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08533. Please arrive to the cemetery by 1:15 PM. All arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home, New Egypt, NJ.
