Obituary of Charles D. Sweeney, Jr.

Charles D. Sweeney Jr., age 81, area resident of Barnegat formerly of North Hanover and Chesterfield, passed away Wednesday June 30, 2021 at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, NJ. He was born on December 17, 1939 to the late Charles and Alice (Schafer) Sweeney, Sr. Charles was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was born and raised in the Trenton and White Horse area. Charles was a self-employed building contractor for many years. He loved the beach and all of his grandchildren. Charles was a parishioner at St. Mary’s of the Pines in Manahawkin. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend that will be deeply missed. Charles is predeceased in death by his beloved wife, Patricia (nee Corrigan) Sweeney; parents Charles D. and Alice B. Sweeney Sr., and a sister Mary Jane Fry. Survived by a son, Charles D. “Dave” Sweeney of New Egypt; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon A. and Christopher G. Smalley of Lanoka Harbor, adored by his six grandchildren, Alex K., Eric C., Chelsea L., and Morgan R. Smalley and Kyle P. and Megan K. Sweeney; a brother John E. Sweeney of North Carolina; nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles will be held on Thursday July 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Church of the Assumption-St. Isidore the Farmer Parish located at 28 Monmouth Road (Route 537) Wrightstown, NJ 08562 with burial to follow at BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 7, 2021 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Tilghman Funeral Home located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533. Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles memory can be made to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org)
