Obituary of Ralph D. Scott

Ralph D. “Scotty” Scott, age 80, of New Egypt died Wednesday, December 28 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Trenton. Born in Houston, TX, he was a longtime area resident.
Scotty retired from the US Army as a Staff Sergeant in 1968 after 20 years of service, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his military service he worked as a prison guard at the Yardville Correctional Facility and also was a truck driver. Scotty was a member of the VFW Post 6590 in Cookstown, the American Legion in both Erie, KS and New Egypt and a member of the AmVets in Jackson. He was proud to be a direct descendant of Davy Crockett. Scotty also was an avid stock car fan and he had worked on the pit crew of NASCAR racer, Earl Canavan in the 1970’s. He loved to watch the food network and was a big fan of Guy Fieri.
Scotty was predeceased by his parents, Douglas O. and Elizabeth Scott and a sister, Maureen McAuley. He is survived by four children, James R. Scott of Hampton News, VA, Elizabeth Scott Idell of Wrightstown, Barbara Scott Carter and husband Irvin of New Egypt and Frances Scott Taylor and husband Robert of Medford, his step-mother, Frances Scott of Brenham, TX; seven grandchildren, Cynthia, Christine, Jamie, Amanda, David, George and Zachary; five great grandchildren; a special step-granddaughter, Kimberly Dameron of Chanute, KS who helped care for him; his best friend, Wally Hartzell of Erie, KS and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Scotty will be held on Tuesday, January 3 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com) with interment with military honors to follow at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.
Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Scotty’s memory may be made to the American Legion Post 102, 313 South Main Street, Erie, KS 66733.
