Bartom A. “Bart” Amburgey, age 91, of New Egypt passed away Thursday, February 3 at the Masonic Home of New Jersey in Burlington Twp. Born in Hornerstown to the late Samuel and Neva (Oakerson) Amburgey, he was a lifetime New Egypt area resident.
Bart had worked as a laboratory foreman for Ciba Geigy in Toms River and also drove an ice cream truck at Fort Dix and after his retirement he very much enjoyed driving the sports bus for the New Egypt Schools. He was a member and past Elder and Choir Director at the Plumsted Presbyterian Church. Bart was very involved with serving his community. He was an Exempt member and Past President of the New Egypt Vol. Fire Co. and former Fire Commissioner, Past President and Captain of the New Egypt First Aid Squad, Past President of the PTA and served on the Plumsted Township Board of Education, Past President of the Allentown High School 50 Plus Reunion Committee and he was a former Scout Master of the Boy Scouts Troop 9. Bart was also very active in the Masonic community. He was a Past Master (2 times) of Pyramid Lodge No. 92 F. & A. M. in New Egypt, a Past President of the Masters and Wardens Association 19th Masonic District, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in Trenton and the Ocean County Shrine Club.
Bart was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Janet (Buckalew) Amburgey a year ago. He is survived by four children, Kurt Amburgey and wife Susan of Brick, Kerry Peters and husband Jim of New Egypt, Kent Amburgey and wife Karen of New Egypt and Karla Amburgey and wife Maureen of Moorestown; eleven grandchildren, Bob Amburgey and wife Tiffany, Michael Amburgey and wife Bernadette, Dana Tonkovich and husband Erik, Kristie Bendick and husband Peter, Ann-Marie Eidell, Julie Nymick and Carlos, Frank Nymick and wife Courtney, Rebecca Peters, Kelly Gubernat and husband Steve, Kyle Amburgey and wife Emily, Kody Amburgey and Rachel; twenty one great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a brother, Terry Amburgey of Sturgis, Mississippi; a sister, Narice Moore of Whiting and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services for Bart will be held on Thursday, February 10 at 12:00 Noon at the Plumsted Presbyterian Church, 14 Front Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 with burial to follow in the Jacobstown Cemetery in Jacobstown. Calling hours will be on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until Noon at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bart’s name can be made to the Plumsted Presbyterian Church or to the New Egypt Vol. Fire Co.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt.
