Sophie Frances Hoff, age 101, of Picture Rocks, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 20, 2022 at home with her family by her side. Sophie was born in East Orange, New Jersey to the late Theodore Stieve and Louise Stieve (nee Reber) on October 12, 1921. She graduated from East Orange High School in 1939. She went to work for Prudential, volunteered for the war department and later worked at McGraw Hill. Sophie resided in New Egypt from 1952 to 1982 where she raised her family before retiring to Picture Rocks, PA. Sophie enjoyed: reading, the ocean, fishing, camping, antique auctions, telling stories from years past, watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play various sports and activities. She loved spending summers with her family at Long Beach Island. Sophie also savored her trips traveling to the New England states visiting friends. She never missed an opportunity to enjoy life, she was always on the go and having fun. Sophie was predeceased by her loving husband Alvah V. Hoff Sr. of 52 years, two sons Michael and Alvah V. Jr., a grandson Brian P. Hoff, a granddaughter Andrea Muller-Hoff, three sisters Louise, Grace, Ruth, and a brother Theodore. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Hess and husband Thomas G. Hess of Lairdsville, PA, son Christopher Hoff and wife Sheryl Hoff (nee Search) of Lairdsville, PA, daughter-in-law Linda Hoff (nee Emery) of New Egypt, NJ; her grandchildren Tina and husband Curtis Holman, Sean and wife Holly Hoff, Keith Hoff, Michael and wife Lorie Search and Kyle Hoff; great-grandchildren Faith Hoff, Kaitlyn Search, Emily Search, Mason Hotchkin, Maggie Hotchkin and Odin Hoff. A funeral service for Sophie will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 11 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street New Egypt, NJ 08533 with burial to follow at Emley’s Hill Cemetery, 69 Emley’s Hill Rd Cream Ridge NJ. Calling hours will be held on Thursday morning from 10 AM to 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sophie’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Foundation (www.stjude.org/donate).
