Lillian Joy Smires, age 87, of Whiting passed away Wednesday, May 4 at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly surrounded by her family. Born in Cookstown to the late Charles and Mabel (Parker) South, she lived in New Egypt and Wrightstown before moving to Whiting 15 years ago.
Before her retirement, Joy worked as a secretary for the Department of Housing at Fort Dix. She enjoyed attending services at the Cookstown and New Egypt United Methodist Churches where she had been a member since 1954. Joy liked gardening, reading, doing puzzles and going to Bingo. But most of all she loved to spend time with her family and close friends. Joy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt who will missed by all.
Joy was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her children; Jeff Smires and wife Lynne of Eastampton, Bonnie Reynolds of Levittown, PA and Susan Phillips of Burlington; her grandchildren, Jay Phillips of Powell, TN, Kevin Smires of Mt. Laurel, Danielle Cottrell of Shamong, Mark Smires of Lumberton, Richard Reynolds of Telford, PA and Greg Reynolds of New Egypt; nine great grandchildren with two on the way; her sister, Gerry Korneluk of Lumberton and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial for Joy will be private at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt.
