Please share a memory of Rodger to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rodger B. Wangerien, age 77, of New Egypt, passed away on Sunday, January 14, at home. Born in
Queens, NY to a military family, Rodger lived in many places including Okinawa and Panama. He
and his beloved wife Kathleen raised their family and lived in New Egypt for over 40 years, calling it
home.
A Monmouth University graduate, Rodger honed his quick wit and patient leadership style as a
manager at the Howard Johnson’s in Asbury Park and bartender at the Happy Apple Inn in
Imlaystown. He worked as a manager at Brockway Glass in Freehold and Owens-Illinois in
Brookville, PA before retiring.
Rodger volunteered in New Egypt as a little league coach and a Board of Education Member at the
elementary school. A lifelong Mets and Jets fan, Rodger had a great sense of humor. He loved
playing golf and teaching his grandsons how to place trifecta bets at Monmouth Park. His perfect
day was listening to live music at the Jersey Shore with a cold beer and clams.
Predeceased by his parents, William and Beatrice; his wife Kathleen; and his brother Kevin; Rodger
is survived by his son Brian and his wife Christina; his daughter Carole and her husband Kurt
Pritchard; his brothers, William and Rande; his sisters, Pam Grosso, Christine Braslow, Dianne
