Obituary of Edna M. Palmer

Edna M. Palmer, age 88, of Jacobstown died Saturday, June 26 at her residence. Born and raised in Suffield, CT, she was an area resident since 1956. During World War II, Edna worked security at Bradley Field in Windsor Locks, CT. There she did security checks for the Tuskegee Airmen, General Barry Goldwater and General Curtis LeMay. She then moved to Mitchell Field on Long Island where she met and married Arthur C. Palmer. After Edna moved to Jacobstown she worked in civilian personal at Fort Dix. She also became the first female housing inspector for the Army at Fort Dix where she retired from. Edna was very active in her later years, learning to swim at age 58 and she started the Get A Life Foundation, organizing trips and activities for seniors. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Constance (Tofilska) Matyskiela and a sister Leokadia. She is survived by her 5 children, Pamela Palmer of Los Angeles, CA, Patricia Palmer and husband Roger Joseph of Boston, MA, Paula Klockner and husband Dan of Lawrenceville, NJ, Timothy Palmer and wife Sandy of Jacobstown and Penny Talarico of Levittown, PA; two brothers, Henry Matyskiela and wife Phyliss of Carmel, ME and Richard Matyskiela of Thompsonville, CT; two sisters, Frances Rumore and Constance Haskell both of Suffield, CT; grandchildren, Brian Klockner of Pennington, Timothy Klockner of Lawrenceville, Julia & Albert Carlson of North Cape May and Nicholas and Kymberli Talarico of Levittown, PA; a great grandson, Marley Carlson of North Cape May; and seven nieces and nephews and their families. A Mass of Christian Burial for Edna will be held on Thursday, July 1 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Assumption, 76 Evergreen Road in New Egypt with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).
