James A. (Buddy) Rush
James A. (Buddy) Rush, 87, of Cream Ridge, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 29, 2010. Born in East Orange, NJ in 1923, he played football for East Orange High School. His family spent the summers at their home in Belmar, NJ, where he was a lifeguard for several years. He joined the US Coast Guard in 1941 and served as a Boatswain?s mate on the USS Mills During WWII.
The ocean was his first love, and it was there, while on leave from the Coast Guard, that he met his true love, Margaret Craig on the boardwalk in Belmar. He and his loving Irish ?bluebird? (as he affectionately called her) were married for 64 years.
After serving his country for five years, Jim served his community for the next 27 years and retired as a Lieutenant from the East Orange Police Department in 1974. He then worked the next 20 years as an investigator with the Union County Public Defenders? Office.
He leaves behind a devoted family: his loving wife Margaret Craig Rush; his children, James Craig Rush and his wife Patricia of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Rosanne Banghart and her husband Bill, of Allentown, NJ, Kathleen Corbeels and her husband, George, of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, Patricia Basko and her husband Glenn, of Millstone Township, NJ; and his grandchildren, Tom Rush, Jamie Banghart and her fianc? Owen McEnroe of Winooski, VT, Craig and Tom Corbeels and Kevin Basko. The youngest of eight, and the only son of James Ivo Rush and Mary Hector, he also leaves behind his only remaining sister, Barbara Files, of Clearwater, FL.
A man of outstanding ethics and moral character, he will always be remembered for his kindness, devotion and wonderful sense of humor (which stayed with him through his long affliction with Alzheimer?s Disease).
