Arthur J. Sherman, Jr., age 87, of Whiting died Friday, April 8 at his residence. Born in Williamsport, PA, he lived there until 1988 when he moved to Sarasota, FL and then to Whiting in 2008. Art served in the US Army during World War II as a M.P. and received a Bronze Star. He was a retired fireman for the city of Williamsport. Art also had his own painting business and operated the Valley Hotel & Restaurant in Mill Hall, PA. Art was predeceased by a brother, Jack Sherman. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (nee Shoop) Sherman; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Dennis Heaps of Williamsport, PA; two step-daughters and their spouses; Sherri and Vincent Lotito of New Egypt and Barbara and Greg Spotts of Jersey Shore, PA; a sister, Rosie Williams of Williamsport, PA; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. A memorial service for Art will be held on Friday, April 15 at 2:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with Pastor William Meyer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Art?s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
