James A. Wirth, age 68, of Columbus died Monday, September 17 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Trenton, Jim was a resident of Columbus since 1978 and formerly of Hamilton Twp. Jim graduated from Trenton State College and was a physics and chemistry teacher at the Burlington County Institute of Technology in Westampton and was named Teacher of the Year for the school year 1995-1996. He also owned Colonial Concrete in Bordentown and was a driver for NADE in Bordentown. Jim liked antique cars, woodworking and gardening. He also enjoyed raising goats and chickens. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Pauline A. (Race) Wirth and by a brother, Richard D. Wirth. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy (nee Gleason) Wirth; two sons, James Thomas Wirth and wife Mary Beth of Mt. Holly and Todd Michael Wirth of Columbus; a grandson, James Warren Wirth of North Hanover Twp.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Rev. Dr. Robert L. Muse of Marlton and Darlene K. and Thomas H. Wirth of Hamilton Twp. and Vermont; a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon L. and Jean M. Wirth of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Jim will be held on Friday, September 21 at 11:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com) with Rev. Dr. Robert L. Muse officiating. Burial will follow in the Upper Springfield Cemetery in Springfield Twp. Calling hours will be on Thursday evening, September 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the Mansfield Township Ambulance Corps, 41 Fieldcrest Drive, Columbus, NJ 08022 or to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.
