William Breetz Gernert, age 89, passed away Wednesday, January 28 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Jackson. Born in Stratford, CT, he was a resident of New Ringgold, PA and formerly of Harleysville, PA.
Bill was a graduate of Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT and served in the US Navy during World War II. He retired as a technical sales representative in the explosives division of DuPont in Delaware.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Marguerite (Breetz) Gernert, a daughter, Laura Gernert and by a brother, Harold Gernert. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Eugenia “Jean” (Wood) Gernert; two children, Sally Sinatro and husband Gary of Kennewick, WA, and William Gernert and wife Babe of Media, PA; three step-children, Jeanmarie Carr and husband Brian of Toms River, Joanna Menaker and husband Dave of New Egypt and Robert Diamond of Harleysville, PA; a sister, Sylvia Leiss of Fairfield, CT; four grandchildren, Colin Sinatro, Brendan Sinatro, Samuel Menaker and Ann Menanker and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Friday, February 6 at 1:30 PM at the Chapel of the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. Please meet at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 at 1:00 PM to drive to the cemetery in procession. (www.tilghmanfh.com).
