Edward L.""Bud"" Steele, age 89, of Whiting died Wednesday, June 20 at his residence. Born in Trenton, he was a resident of New Egypt for 47 years before moving to Whiting 14 years ago. Ed operated William R. Steele & Son Plumbing & Heating in Hamilton before his retirement. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge. Ed was a member of the New Egypt United Methodist Church, a Life Member of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt, a member and former President of the Woodruff Rod & Gun Club and he was a 65 year member of the Mercer Lodge No. 50 of the F.&A.M. Son of the late William R. & Elizabeth (Ash) Steele and brother of the late Marion Pointon, Ed is survived by he wife of 59 years, Rita (Buckalew) Steele; a son & daughter-in-law, Edward and Janice Steele of Whiting; a daughter & son-in-law, Susan and Curt Bentley of Deepstep, GA; three grandsons, Thomas Steele & wife Angela of Ohio, William R. Steele & wife Melissa of Tuckerton and Bryan Steele of Bayville; a granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Bentley of Deepstep, GA; two great grandchildren, Craig Steele and Jessica Steele and two nephews, George and Robert Pointon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 11:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt, with Masonic services at 10:30. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery in New Egypt. Calling hours will be on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
