I will remember Albert as my “big” cousin who was older and wiser with a keen sense of humor. Growing up across the street, I remember him as always being in his shop/garage and working with his Dad, Uncle Al. I came to know Denise over time and was so happy that he found such a sweet lovely wife.
One memory was the of my Freshman year in college when I was home for the summer. Cars were very important to our families. My brother, Kenny couldn’t believe that I didn’t have a car. He gave me- good guy- a car. It was a ‘65 Ford Falcon that already had a history, from an old military base vehicle then a woods car that we’d drive through the woods for fun. It was Albert who guided Kenny in repairing the car so that it would be road worthy. It was an act of kindness that they would work so hard on a car for me. Then it came time when the car was ready for a paint job. Albert asked me what color I liked. I responded with my favorite color, green. I don’t think that green was on the favorite list for Albert. But, he reassured me that he had the “perfect” color. Once finished I had the shiniest fluorescent metallic green car that ever existed. I do believe that was Albert’s sense of humor coming through. I loved that car and have a host of stories of my travels and years with my car. I can still see Albert’s smile when I saw my GREEN car. That car was much more than a vehicle to drive, it was a key part of my freedom to the future.
Memories are jewels and we will never lose them. ❤️
